Alchemist Gift’s Main Theme
The main theme of Alchemist Gift is the idea we are all one, we always have been and always will be. We are the mirror to all and the measure of none.
We are all part of a great collective, passing through time together, dependent on on another and unfathomably connected by innumerable strands, so that no one of us can be truly independent.
With that in mind, the characters who inhabit the pages of Alchemist Gift are inextricably connected. They all tell the same story and each one’s contribution is as important as the next. Because of that, the protagonist Roland, does not carry the entire story. He shares that privilege with a host of other people, many whom he shall never meet, but each one has affected his life, not only in the present but when he travels to the past as well.
To take the idea further, these connections go back to all of our distant pasts. The actions of our unknown ancestors have delivered us to this exact moment in time. Who can say that if one of your or my forefathers hadn’t taken a certain turn in a path, or hadn’t had the strength or luck to survive and attack from a wild animal or a neighboring tribe or if he hadn’t mated with a certain woman, on a certain day optimal for conception, neither one of us may exist. It is truly a miracle we are here.
